A complete city is one which combined all kind of industry and workforce. Taipei is one of the city which has tertiary industry surrounded by secondary industry. This allowed the citizen on Taipei to have more choices and better efficiency when a product needs to be fixed or assembled. 


Luzhou is a place with it’s own character, with factories and industries which is not only rich and strong, but also provides citizens to have a better quality of life and convenience. But as the MRT starts to spread, constructors set up counters for reconstruction of the site. Other then turning into high raise residential buildings,  what will Luzhou industrial district going to be in the future? What are the possibilities?


Luzhou industrial district is facing sever change in the future decade. Due to the start of MRT Luzhou line, the residential price is raising. On a government report, which is advising to renew Luzhou industry area into new, high raised residential buildings. This act could raise the density of the city, increase government income and remove the dirty and polluted industry area, but wiping the rich context of the district at the same time. What will factory owners and workers react to this policy? When talking about urban renewal, is there another way different then destroy all the city context?

The district haven’t turned to residential yet, but the density of the district last year was 26,822 ppl/sq km, 8 times more than the population density, 3,272, planned by the local government and ranked 3rd in the country. 


The reconstruction will also impact 2,383 factories to close and more than 11,915 workers loosing their job, causing more than 10,000 families loose their major income. The unemployment population and poverty will affect all the citizens of the city and creating more social issues.


What can we do to keep these warehouse alive and creating more real earnings and social benefits at the same time? Due to the lack of professional training and proper tools, students from design school often learned how to design, but never really get their hands on “making” the design. By inserting school facilities into the district, the district can be overturned by the vitality of students and the workers can benefit from giving students a lessen of the machinery.  


Students learned to access all kinds of machinery and technology and practice to construct the design they have in mind; school saved budgets from buying expensive machines and allowed workers and neighboring residents to come into contact with new ideas; owners received great social value and was able to advertise themselves; workers get in touch with better ideas and increase revenue by giving students lessens.

Phase 1:

Starting with administration building, combined with a few workshop. By placing them on the abandoned warehouse, reorganize the urban infrastructures, then recruiting cooperative partner from business around school.

Phase 2:

paving expended as school facilities spread out further. Workers and designers start to collaborate and more warehouses joining in the recreation union.

Phase 3:

reconstruct district infrastructures while providing events and lectures for different community, attracting residents to interact with workers and designer as they worked together in a project.
